World Premiere: “BE THE SKY”
Friday, November 14th. @7:30 PM

Created by Tibetan artist Tenzin Choegyal and legendary American composer Philip Glass , BE THE SKY is a stunning new collection of works for piano quintet and string quartet—making its world premiere right here at Skidmore College .

This unforgettable evening features Choegyal, producer-composer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Ring Gray, and the 2× Grammy Award-winning Attacca Quartet, with collaborative performances by Skidmore music students, faculty, and local Saratoga Springs school children.

Adding to the experience, Tibetan actor and dancer Tsering Dorjee will perform the traditional monastic “Black Hat” dance, alongside a ballet interpretation by Skidmore senior Siena Yannotti.

Known for blending Tibetan musical traditions with contemporary sound, Choegyal reunites with Glass—one of the most influential composers of our time—to explore resilience, devotion, and spiritual connection. The program will debut music from the upcoming album BE THE SKY (released the same day on Glass’s Orange Mountain Music label), along with a short film capturing Choegyal and Glass during the making of the title track.

Presented by the Arthur Zankel Music Center in partnership with Skidmore’s Department of Music.

Join us for an exciting and educational arts and music summer program hosted by the Tibet Art Studio in collaboration with TANC. This program is open to both youth and adults who are interested in exploring the rich cultural heritage of Tibet.

Seats for this program are limited, so it will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The program offers a variety of activities, including learning to play the Tibetan music instrument called lute (Dranyen), developing skills, understanding rhythm, learning how to read and write musical notation, gaining confidence in playing instruments, and much more!

Participants must be 5 years of age or older to join the program. Here are the available weekly dates for the program:
